The top three days for home candle fires are Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve.
The holiday seasons brings happiness and joy, but also fire hazards. Here are some tips on avoiding a home fire this holiday season.
- Choose decorations that are flame resistant.
- Keep burning candles away from decorations and Christmas trees.
- Do not use any decorations or lights with frayed electrical cords.
- Test your smoke alarms and have a fire escape plan.
- Stay in the kitchen when cooking with the stove or oven.
- Place all decorations at least three feet away from heat sources.
- Recognize which lights are intended for indoor or outdoor use.
- Turn off holiday lights and extinguish all candles before leaving or going to sleep.
