Cooking is the main cause of home fires and injuries. With Thanksgiving feasts and all of the cooking involved with the holiday, it is no wonder why Thanksgiving is a peak day for fire emergencies. Keep yourself and your family safe this holiday season by following these simple safety tips:
- Never leave cooking food or unattended.
- Keep small children at least three feet away from the stove and oven.
- Keep flammable items away from kitchen appliances that generate heat.
- Clean cooking surfaces regularly.
- Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen.
- Make sure all kitchen appliances are turned off before leaving your home or going to bed.
- Check the batteries in your smoke alarms (especially the one in your kitchen!)
